Stop using gimmicks to hook your audience. Do this instead
Nov 10, 2025Stop looking for ways to hack the algorithm
Last week I taught a class on becoming the go-to expert
Leading up to it, I was curious...
What actually makes someone the go-to expert?
Well, you have to publish content
But then comes the first big problem
Just because you're required to post,
Doesn't mean people are required to pay attention
So how do we get people interested?
Well, according to all the social media gurus, we need a hook
But not just any hook. It has to be catchy, concise, creative, cool, crazy, and more
They'll tell you to use a specific viral hook framework
Or to hold a random object like a banana to throw people off guard
Or to hire a fancy editor to add special effects.
What if it there was a simple way to grab people's attention?
Donald Trump is a perfect example of this
Love him or hate him, (I don't care, that's none of my business)
When he has an announcement to make, he'll host a rally
These rally's get 1000's and 1000's of people to attend
They'll stop whatever, call off work, get a babysitter, catch a plane, bus, & train
Why is it that people drop everything to hear him speak?
Especially when they can just catch the recording or read the news the next day
But when you speak, you're invisible?
The secret...
Stop trying to hook your audience using gimmicks and be the hook
What do I mean by "be the hook?"
I mean, become the type of person that people will drop everything they're doing just to hear you speak
Now how do you become that person?
Be polarizing.
President Trump is extremely polarizing. But so was MLK Jr.
Hitler was extremely polarizing. But so was Gandhi
Alexander The Great was extremely polarizing. But so was Jesus Christ
Everyone I just mentioned was loved by many
And hated by many more
But they all held one thing in common
When they spoke, people listened.
You will never become the go-to expert being luke warm or giving generic tips that people can ask ChatGPT for
You're voice will never matter to others until you take a stance for something
For example, I hear realtors mention how "real estate is the best way to build generational wealth."
Well if that's true then how come only 9% of agents own an investment property?
So if I were an agent I could make a video on the "Top 10 reasons why buying a home is the WORST financial investment"
Notice how I used the word "worst" instead of "bad" or "average" or "not the best"
They're all interchangeable but "worst" is the most polarizing option here
So I challenge you to take some time today to think about all the mainstream advice in your industry
What do you disagree with?
Then start talking about it
And for those of you in my bootcamp we're going to dive deeper into this
