How I Prevent ChatGPT From Sounding Like Everyone Else

So I just got back home from speaking in Houston.
Currently running on 3 hours of sleep 😩

But someone asked me a great question yesterday that sparked a really good conversation.

He asked:
"If we're all using the same prompts and AI tools, won't everyone start to sound the same?"

We ended up having a great discussion about it.

So to summarize what we talked about,
here are my top 4 tips to prevent your AI (specifically ChatGPT) from sounding like everyone else:

1. Update Your Custom Instructions

You can train ChatGPT about you, your business, and how you'd like it to respond.
This is one of the most underrated features that sets the tone for how it communicates with you.

2. Use the Memory & Reference Chat History Features

These tools allow ChatGPT to get to know you over time.
The more context it has, the more personalized and unique your responses will be.

3. Change the ChatGPT Model You’re Using

Different models give different vibes.

• 4o is great for everything

• 4.5 is more empathetic

• o1 is great for logical stuff

• o3 is great for fast responses

Test them out and see which one works best for your needs.

4. Use ChatGPT as a Personal Assistant, Not a Clone

Big emphasis on this last one.

Remember—you are different from everyone else.

You’re in a different industry, a different market, with a different target audience and experience.

When you hire an assistant (whether virtually or in-person),
you’re not looking to have them be your doppelgänger.
You want them to help you do the work you don’t want to or don’t like to do
—so you can focus on the money-making activities.

Treat ChatGPT, or whatever AI tool you use, the same way.
